“Auto Transport Broker” Business Opportunity

Businessman Broker Auto Transport Broker Business Opportunity

“Auto Transport Broker” a Business Opportunity!

Your life, on your terms.

Building a business by becoming a nationwide auto transport broker is a lucrative proposition. People no longer drive a U-Haul truck; pulling their car behind them.

Today it’s not uncommon for people to purchase a car in Florida when they live in California and have it shipped cross country. But the question becomes, “who is shipping the vehicles”?

When people ship their car using an auto transport broker it accomplishes two things. First it relieves a lot of stress for the customer. Secondly, the transport broker business makes money.

By providing quality customer service you set yourself apart from other brokers. Not only will your customer love you, they will refer their friends to you.

Who is shipping the cars?

Owning and operating your own business is work. Building an auto transport brokerage is not for the faint of heart. It is not for the person who prefers a 9 to 5 job.

Set office hours vary by the individual business. We’ve found that 7 AM to 5 PM works best for our company. Being able to serve clients including the dispatch offices and truckers is crucial. Remember, truck drivers run 11 hour days, 7 days a week. Being flexible is key to your success.

If you are a hard worker, you can build a solid, successful business. If you like a competitive environment, nationwide auto transport may be for you.

If working  with people of varying backgrounds, experience and temperament is a challenge for you; this “auto transport broker business opportunity” may not be for you.

However; if you have a competitive spirit you will thrive in the auto transport business environment. Getting up early in the morning gives your business a head start…it’s the best time of the day. Remember as in any competition, you’ve got to be on top of your game to play with the big boys. Showing up early is one of those key elements you will want in your winning arsenal.

As a broker you will be working with all different sorts of people, this makes it fun. Imagine having a boss you love working with…you will have lots of them. Then, imagine having a boss you don’t like working with…you’ll have those, too. But, you get to choose if you want to work with them or not. Even if they choose to work with you and you don’t necessarily like it…once the car is moved, they are served and you can move onwink smile Auto Transport Broker Business Opportunity

Building your own auto transport brokerage covers all the facets of the work place. You will serve people over the phone giving them free quotes, via the internet and email, sometimes by U.S. mail and even sometimes in person. The diversity is exciting and helps keep you on top of your game.

Logistics of building an auto transport business…

U.S. Department of Transportation laws regulate the physical area you can work in. Interstate and intrastate transports fall under this scope of limitations.

You must be licensed and bonded. There are various methods of securing your bond; as well as various companies to work with. Our experience has shown some are superior to others.

There are resources to assist with international shipping, border crossing and all paperwork. We can assist you with all of these details. By taking the work off of you and shortening your learning curve everything flows beautifully.

The majority of business is usually U.S. interstate transports. Hawaii and Alaska are among popular shipping destinations at certain times of the year.

Our company has experience in shipping to foreign locations such as Russia, the United Kingdom, Australia, Puerto Rico and Panama.

Part of the excitement of the “auto transport broker business opportunity” is the continual learning process. No two shipments are identical. It is the same with your clients, each one has unique needs and circumstances.

What does the auto transport broker ship?

As a nationwide auto transport broker you will arrange for the shipping of many types of vehicles. This may include automobiles; sedans, pick-up trucks, SUV’s (sport utility vehicles), mini vans and motorcycles.

On occasion you might arrange shipping for boats, trailers and various types of equipment. We’ve shipped everything from commercial riding lawn mowers to Zamboni’s, which are ice rink grooming machines.

So, if you get excited by continually learning and improving your customer service skills; brokering may be for you. If it is a challenge you welcome, brokering may be just the business opportunity for you, too.

As with any business opportunity, auto transport brokering is what you make of it. Hard work, love of serving the public, and scheduling your own work time may make auto transport brokering just the business opportunity for you.

We are currently working our auto transport business Monday through Friday, as any normal business person would. However, we are NOT offering our coaching services at this time. Instead we are centering our focus on building our part-time, healthy retirement business at the same time.

If you are ready to work from the comfort of your own home in a part-time, healthy retirement business to pay off pesky bills, save for retirement or take that vacation you’ve been dreaming of, CONTACT ME for information today! (tell me you want to work together part-time)

Carla,Sorry I am not looking to be A broker, I have a ford F150 P/u and One car trailer How to find business. Thank william

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com Carla

      Hi William,

That is great, it’s always good to find driver’s with specific equipment. There is a need for small carriers out there in the market. There are several ways to find business for your company. One way is to be a member of Central Dispatch, a load board where brokers post available freight. You can always solicit business from your local dealerships, too. By developing relationships with brokers, dealers and other industry professionals you will continue to stay busy and build your profits.

How can I get loads as a broker? I still don’t understand how to get loads even after I have my authority

        • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

You will need to purchase leads or generate them on your own, Lary.

    Hello Carla,
My sons have been moving cars in the auto shipping industry for 3 years and at this point represent 40 % of the 12 person firms gross reciepts
with that said it is time.
We have inquired abou tall the legal mandates , and also understand how to generate incomming quality in a leads in a big way as well as having some great rlationships with dozens of carriers.
we have learned today that the co they were working with is going out of buisness which was expected . althought the customer was treated properly .”the help
was not, in addition there were 4 partners that did not put a lot of time in .
With that said ,”what do you think ????
    Tim

    5

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com Carla

Wow, Tim. I am sorry that your sons have worked so hard only to be treated so poorly. Sounds to me like a good reason they might consider working for themselves. I believe there is still a strong market in the auto transport industry, both as a broker and as a carrier. Maybe an option for them is to form a partnership to run under? Have they ever considered having one of the brothers take over the office duties and dispatch while the other three run rigs? Just some thoughts. Hard working men will always come out on top as long as they don’t give up.

Carla you maybe a good transporter, but from personal experience as well as other over the net, feel that DAS is a horrible company. You should really try to partner up with someone else. They damaged my 1963 corvette during transport and would not payout the claim. The classic car group are recommending Intercity Lines and they are also the official transporter for Barrett-Jackson. If you value your business leave DAS. Just Google the net for complaints and you will find problems across all facets of their service.

    • admin

      Hi Alvin,

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing such valuable information with our readers. As a nationwide auto transport broker we contract with many owner-operator car-haulers, DAS is NOT one of them. Throughout many of our stories we refer to the term “dependable auto shipper” which does not in any way refer to the company, DAS that you mention.

Like many others our customers have had horrific experiences using their services and come to us to solve their auto transport problems. We have shipped many classic cars using both open and enclosed carriers with very limited issues. But with support from loyal customers like yourself providing warning for others we are able to avoid using companies like DAS. We have a database of hundreds of preferred car-haulers with excellent reputations who provide quality service to our customers. Thanks again for sharing and for taking the time to read about our adventure in auto transport.

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

       Hi Alvin,

Thank you for the warning. We are not affiliated with DAS in any way. We are fully aware of the lack of service this company provides those needing to ship a car. We are a nationwide auto transport broker who works closely with our database of preferred carriers, mostly owner-operators. The confusion may have been due to the wording on some of our posts, dependable auto shippers. In any case, thank you for your valuable input, this is what helps everyone stay away from companies that do not provide quality service.

  • Lynda Christian

Sir, trying to help my nephew, age 26, start an auto transport business; he’s had a hard time since my sister and brother-in-law passed away, got into trouble, that sort of thing and is currently with a small auto transport broker business…he’s a born salesman and loves it.  I help as much as I can, but lost my job and ny son and I are not doing too well.

Question is simple. MUST he obtain a bond from the DOT to get his broker’s license or is there any way to get around this?  We live in Florida and in foreclosure and there’s no one with decent credit (bonds are more expensive with low credit scores, correct?) and his credit is very low, plus no money.

But he is good at this and made $600 last week on only $30 per closed deal (though another week it was ohly $200).

I’ve done so much research and he’s so discouraged now because of the cost and eligibility for the bond.  In researching, I believe he must be employed as a broker agent, not a broker, though he has the same responsibilities, which is probably why no bond is required, of course.

I also am troubled that it may not be legal for him to become a licensed broker, working on his spare time, whilestill working with this brokerage office.  do you know if this is illegal?  Or is it “just” very bad work ethics.  But he is desperate to make a decent living and this is the first seemingly good opportunity available….Florida has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

Any advice or information about the bond requirement, or any advice at all, would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Lynda Christian

      Hi Lynda,

With numerous questions I’ll call you with the answers. I am sorry to hear about your family’s tragedy. My heart goes out to you as this is never easy to work through. So sorry for the tardy reply. We’ve been focusing on our part time retirement business while brokering is slow. Future is bright, profits are up and we are loving life again.

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

Lynda as we discussed on the phone a broker must be licensed, bonded and operate within the guidelines of the DOT law. A person can be an agent operating under another broker’s authority and business. In today’s business world many people operate out of sheer desperation and do things they normally wouldn’t do otherwise.  I wish continued success for your family while operating as a legal, bonded broker.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the auto transport broker opportunity. We have currently closed our training program. Due to the sluggish economy, the increase in number of brokers and lack of customers we don’t feel it to be a viable business opportunity at this time. We have shifted our focus instead to our new retirement business where our market share is increasing, profits are increasing and the future is bright. Should you be interested in checking it out, contact me for more information.

  • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten back with you. You see, I don’t frequent this blog anymore. If you read the front article on our home page we have shifted our focus and moved where we hang out. If you ask questions here…http://CarlaJGardiner.com I’ll answer because I will get an email telling me you have asked a question. Please join us there for more information.

  • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

In today’s market the car hauling business is tough…there’s no way to beat around the bush. Because the market has shifted, the business ethics within the industry shifted too. It is not the same business I started seven years ago, my joy is not as it was. Therefore, our coaching program is not available anymore as I can not in good faith recommend it as a business for everyone.

Feel free to download our free reports this will certainly give you plenty of good information and it’s free.

      Hi Wallace,

Thank you for contacting us regarding dispatching services. I’m not sure how I can help you. We do provide dispatch services but there is much to consider when starting out with a new carrier. If you are not interested in employing us as your dispatcher I’m not sure how I can be of service to you. We do not provide free training and all I can do is point you to Central Dispatch, u-Ship or CarLoad USA to study, learn the pricing and you will learn like I did…by doing it. Much success to you in your new business.

  • ADA

Hello, I came upon this website due to a current problem that I am having with a broker. I am not in the business, I am just a customer. We are currently involved with a broker that is shipping my mother’s car, she had a signed agreement and contract of a price and the car has been picked up. Now that the vehicle is on its way, the broker called saying that unless she pays an additional $225 dollars the truck driver will not deliver her car and she will be charged a $75 daily storage fee. The broker was yelling at us on the phone and there was no reasoning with him. I am very upset about his shady business practice and would have preferred to give the business to an honest person and pay someone that deserves it. This guy was very persuasive, calling my mom several times a day. What can I do?

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience with this broker. If you have a copy of your mom’s signed contract and it spells out the terms of payment including the original dollar amount you do not have to be bullied. You can call the local authorities, explain the heated situation and they will be present for the delivery of the vehicle. They will ensure the driver only collects the appropriate rate and does no damage to your vehicle.

If the contract has any implication that the rate may be raised there may be no alternative other than to pay the requested rate. However, if the contract is a standard one it should be straight forward and clear to understand. I hope you receive your vehicle without incident. Best wishes to you and your mom.

Carla, this is somewhat related. We are a car broker/dealer for a large salvage auction and are selling the business. We sell about 540 cars
a year, all Ecommerce. We don’t do transportation and all of the cars
have to be transported, This might be an opportunity for a transporter
that wants to create their own transport jobs.

    • http://CarlaJGardiner.com/ Carla J Gardiner

      Hi Lawrence,

Thank you for letting us know about this opportunity. However, we are currently working on another business venture and have our hands full. I will however keep my eyes and ears open on your behalf and should anyone express interest I’ll direct them your way.
